Built a WooCommerce platform that supported 15,000+ orders, delivery scheduling, branch operations, and staff workflows for a growing food business

15,000+ Orders

60 -70 daily orders

Project Overview

MelonyPine is a growing food business that sells parfaits, yoghurt products, hampers, and related food items across Lagos.

The business had already built strong customer demand and was processing a high volume of orders. As the business grew, its operational requirements became more complex, and the existing ecommerce platform was becoming limiting.

This project wasn’t simply about launching another online store.

The business needed a system that could support delivery scheduling, branch operations, staff management, customer ordering, abandoned cart recovery, and reporting, while reducing the amount of manual coordination required from the team.

Working alongside a Nigerian agency team, I built a WooCommerce platform around the company’s day-to-day operations.

During active operations, the website processed 15,000+ orders while supporting a business handling approximately 60 to 70 orders every day.

The Challenge

Customer demand was already there.

The challenge was making operations easier to manage as order volume continued to increase.

The business needed a system that could:

  • Handle growing order volume
  • Support multiple staff members
  • Manage delivery scheduling
  • Control staff permissions
  • Reduce abandoned carts
  • Improve checkout completion rates
  • Support different delivery pricing rules
  • Provide better reporting visibility

Customer experience was equally important.

Most customers ordered from mobile devices, so navigation, product discovery, cart access, and checkout needed to be simple and frictionless.

There were also infrastructure constraints. Parts of the hosting environment were managed externally, which added additional coordination requirements during development and testing.

The Approach

I approached the project as an operational system rather than a typical food ecommerce website.

The goal was to make ordering easier for customers while giving the team better control over daily operations and reducing unnecessary manual work.

The implementation focused on four areas:

  • Customer ordering experience
  • Delivery coordination
  • Backend operations
  • Reporting and visibility

The WooCommerce setup included:

  • Delivery scheduling workflows
  • State-based delivery pricing
  • Checkout customization
  • Staff role management
  • Branch-based order handling
  • Abandoned cart recovery
  • Custom reporting
  • Mobile ordering improvements

The result was a platform that supported both sides of the business: a smoother buying experience for customers and better operational control for the team behind the scenes.

Key Features

Sales By State Analytics

The team wanted to understand how different regions across Nigeria were performing, but WooCommerce didn’t provide state-level reporting.

To solve this, I developed a custom Sales By State Analytics Dashboard directly inside the WooCommerce admin area.

The dashboard allowed the business to:

  • View revenue by state
  • Track order volume by location
  • Identify top-performing regions
  • Monitor sales trends across different regions
  • View top-selling products by state

This gave the business much better visibility into customer purchasing behaviour and made it easier to spot growth opportunities.

Delivery Scheduling System

Using WooCommerce Delivery & Pickup Date Time Pro, customers could select their preferred delivery date and delivery window directly during checkout.

The system prevented customers from scheduling deliveries outside approved periods and helped the operations team coordinate fulfilment more efficiently.

This reduced delivery conflicts and gave customers clearer expectations around order arrival times.

Branch & Staff Management

Different staff members were responsible for different parts of the order workflow.

Using PublishPress Capabilities Pro and additional backend workflow controls, I configured role-based permissions that allowed staff to access only the parts of WooCommerce relevant to their responsibilities.

This protected sensitive business information while making it easier for the team to perform their day-to-day tasks efficiently.

Abandoned Cart Recovery

A significant number of customers reached checkout but left before completing payment.

Using Retainful and Cart Abandonment Recovery for WooCommerce, I implemented automated follow-up sequences that reminded customers to return and complete their orders.

This helped recover potentially lost revenue and improve overall checkout completion rates.

Outcome

The WooCommerce platform became a central part of the company’s daily operations during an important stage of growth.

It supported high daily order volume, delivery coordination, staff management, customer retention, reporting, and checkout optimization while helping the team manage increasing operational complexity more effectively.

Over the course of active operations, the website processed 15,000+ orders and supported a business handling approximately 60 to 70 orders every day.

The project also led directly to the creation of the Sales By State Dashboard, which later evolved into a standalone WooCommerce reporting solution.

Although the business eventually migrated to another platform, the WooCommerce implementation successfully supported a critical period of growth and became an important operational system for the business.
