Project Overview
GD Jewelries is a Nigerian jewelry brand selling directly to customers through both online and physical store operations.
Before the WooCommerce implementation, much of the business relied heavily on WhatsApp conversations, manual payment verification, manual order processing, and disconnected inventory workflows.
As sales volume increased, these processes became difficult to manage efficiently.
The goal of the project was to create a centralized ecommerce system that could support online ordering, customized jewelry requests, inventory management, in-store sales operations, payment processing, and day-to-day order management from a single platform.
The WooCommerce system eventually processed 32,000+ completed orders while supporting both online and physical store operations.
The Challenge
The business already had strong demand.
The challenge was managing that demand efficiently.
Most customers still completed purchases through WhatsApp conversations, creating unnecessary delays before orders could be finalized.
Customers often needed to:
- Request product information
- Confirm availability
- Discuss customization options
- Upload personalization details
- Send payment proof
- Wait for manual confirmation
Internally, the business was also facing operational challenges as order volume increased.
These included increasing staff-theft, payment verification, order coordination, staff workflows, abandoned carts, and limited visibility across online and physical sales channels.
The business needed a system that would reduce manual work while creating a smoother buying experience for customers.
The Approach
he project was approached as an operational system rather than a standard ecommerce website.
The goal was to simplify how customers purchased products while giving the business better control over inventory, orders, staff workflows, and day-to-day operations.
The WooCommerce implementation focused on:
- Product discovery
- Checkout simplification
- Custom jewelry ordering
- Inventory accountability
- POS operations
- Backend visibility
- Customer retention
- Operational efficiency
Every major workflow was designed around how the business actually operated rather than forcing the business to adapt to a generic ecommerce template.
Key Features
Custom Jewelry Request
One of the most important requirements was supporting personalized jewelry products.
Custom ordering workflows were configured to allow customers to submit engraving requests, upload reference images, and provide personalization instructions directly from the product page.
Customer uploads and customization requests were automatically attached to WooCommerce orders, making it easier for staff to process personalized products without additional WhatsApp conversations.
This significantly reduced manual follow-up during custom order processing.
POS & Barcode Inventory System
A major operational challenge was inventory accountability between online and physical store sales.
To solve this, a WooCommerce POS workflow was implemented and connected directly to the website inventory system.
The setup included:
- Barcode generation
- Barcode printing
- SKU automation
- Inventory synchronization
- In-store sales processing
- Centralized stock visibility
This allowed the business to manage both online and offline sales from a single inventory source.
Optimized Shopping Experience
The website was structured around helping customers find products and complete purchases faster.
Navigation, product discovery, search functionality, and checkout workflows were improved to reduce friction throughout the buying journey.
Several usability improvements were also introduced, including:
- Sticky navigation
- Faster category access
- Improved product discovery
- Guest checkout support
- Improved cart visibility
- Mobile-first shopping experience
The traditional “Add To Cart” workflow was also adjusted to better match local shopping behaviour and reduce confusion during ordering.
Abandoned Cart Recovery
Using Cart Abandonment Recovery for WooCommerce, automated recovery workflows were configured for customers who left checkout before completing payment.
Follow-up reminders encouraged customers to return and complete their purchases.
This helped recover potentially lost orders while improving overall conversion performance.
Outcome
The WooCommerce implementation helped GD Jewelries move from a largely manual sales process into a centralized ecommerce operation.
The platform supported:
- 32,000+ completed orders
- Online and offline sales workflows
- Custom jewelry ordering
- Inventory accountability
- Barcode-based operations
- Customer self-service ordering
- Payment processing
- Operational visibility
The project significantly reduced dependence on WhatsApp-based ordering while creating a more scalable system for both customers and staff.
It remains one of the strongest operational WooCommerce projects in my portfolio because it combined ecommerce, inventory management, POS operations, customer experience optimization, and custom ordering workflows within a single system.
