Project Overview

Sofas & More is a Nigerian furniture manufacturer and retailer specializing in sofas, living room furniture, bedroom furniture, dining furniture, and custom-made pieces.

Before this project, the business operated without a website and relied largely on offline sales, referrals, social media conversations, and direct customer inquiries.

The goal was to build the company’s first ecommerce platform, giving customers a central place to browse products, explore completed projects, request custom furniture, and place orders online.

This wasn’t simply a website project.

It was the creation of a new digital sales channel for the business.

The website needed to present the brand professionally, support product discovery across multiple furniture categories, improve customer confidence, and create a shopping experience that felt as premium as the products themselves.

The Challenge

The business had built a strong reputation through traditional channels but had no dedicated ecommerce platform.

Customers interested in purchasing furniture often needed to move between social media conversations, WhatsApp messages, and manual inquiries before making a purchase.

Several challenges needed to be solved:

  • No existing ecommerce website
  • Large furniture catalog across multiple categories
  • Custom furniture inquiries
  • Mobile-first customer behaviour
  • Product discovery challenges
  • Need for stronger online credibility
  • Customer communication workflows
  • Long-term website management after launch

The challenge was creating a website that felt premium while remaining easy for customers to navigate and easy for the business to manage internally.

The Approach

The project started with discovery sessions to understand the business, its customers, and how people shop for furniture online.

Research focused on:

  • Customer buying behaviour
  • Furniture ecommerce websites
  • Competitor positioning
  • Navigation structures
  • Product categorization
  • Conversion opportunities

Instead of treating the website like a product catalogue, the goal was to create a structured shopping experience that guides customers naturally from browsing to inquiry or purchase.

Every major decision was made around three objectives:

  • Improve product discovery
  • Increase customer confidence
  • Simplify the buying journey

Key Features

Product Architecture & Category Structure

One of the most important parts of the project was organizing the catalogue into a structure that felt natural to furniture buyers.

Products were grouped into major categories such as:

  • Living Room
  • Bedroom
  • Dining
  • Kitchen
  • Accessories

To improve usability, I implemented a dual navigation structure.

One navigation menu focuses on website pages.

The second focuses specifically on furniture categories.

This makes it easier for customers to navigate large collections without feeling overwhelmed.

Instead of displaying hundreds of products at once, the website guides visitors through a structured browsing experience.

Free Shipping Progress Bar

A custom free-shipping progress system was implemented to encourage larger purchases.

As customers add products to their cart, they can see how close they are to unlocking free shipping.

This creates a clear purchasing incentive while improving the overall shopping experience.

Enhanced Cart Experience

The cart experience was optimized to provide immediate visual confirmation whenever products are added.

Instead of leaving customers wondering whether an item was successfully added, the website instantly displays cart feedback and updates the cart state.

Small improvements like this help reduce confusion and improve customer confidence during shopping.

Customer Account System

Clear Login and Register functionality was implemented to make it easier for returning customers to access their accounts, manage orders, and track purchases.

This helps improve customer retention and long-term customer relationships.

Smart WhatsApp Ordering

Many furniture buyers prefer discussing products before purchasing.

To support this behaviour, I implemented smart WhatsApp ordering links that automatically include:

  • Product name
  • Product reference
  • Product URL

This reduces unnecessary back-and-forth communication and helps the sales team immediately understand what the customer is interested in.

Outcome

Sofas & More now has a fully functional ecommerce platform that serves as the digital foundation of the business.

The website provides:

  • Professional online presence
  • Structured product discovery
  • Mobile-friendly shopping
  • Customer account management
  • WhatsApp-assisted purchasing
  • Easier catalogue navigation
  • Improved customer confidence

Most importantly, the business moved from having no website at all to owning a platform capable of supporting long-term online growth.
